This reminded me of my instructor in tech school. He was a old IH mechanic and said back in the day guys would shim crank and rod bearings on f-12,14's 30's with pieces of beer cans!

The previous owner of my dad's F-30 has beer cans and what ever washers the PO could find to shim the rear end after pulling it too hard. We have had it for 30+ years, drive it in parades, and even pick ear corn with it and surprisingly haven't had an issue. I guess they made beer cans better back in the day.
