I did REALLY examine the impulse tube and I did find a small crack in it.

So, right now, I need to throw a new set of gaskets on it, and bolt it back up, and replace the tube. I hate to say it, but I'll be pretty pissed at myself if this turns out to all stem from a cracked $5 part.

BTW - Sears and RepairClinic.com have the head assembly for sale for $86, which is the best I've seen.

SureGrip, good luck with your repairs. Let us know how it turns out. I agree, I thought the pictures on this thread were amazing. One more reason to keep grass out of the cooling fins!

And Welcome to OCC!

Thank you for the warm welcome!

I was able to get the gaskets and impulse tube from Repair Clinic . com and will be putty Humpty Dumpty back together today.

I saw the question posted earlier in this thread, but never saw an answer. Does anyone have the torque specs for the head bolts?

Thanks again, and I'll let everyone know if she fires back up again. *fingers crossed*

Well...put it all back together, crank it over, and nothing out of the pump...

So, I try priming the pump, ensuring that there is fuel to the pump...I'm barely getting anything coming out of the fuel line, even when it's just hanging free...it should be pouring out of the hose.

So, I go to the source, open gas cap to make sure it's vented, still barely a drop coming out.

Climb under the tractor and start inspecting the fuel hose to see if it's kinked or pinched...sure as sh**, the little plastic ring that holds the fuel hose to the frame rail, right behind the left-rear tire, had broken and allowed the hose to get caught between the deck bracket and the underside of the frame, pinching it nearly closed..

Pull it free and check to see if it is damaged, all looks good, so I crank it again, and now fuel is shooting out of the pump. I'm pretty sure the whole neighborhood heard the f-bomb I yelled out.

So now the battery is on the charger, and it should be ready to fire in an hour or so....either that or I'm going to burn it to the ground.

Oh, and the torque spec for the head bolts is 220in/lbs or 18.333 ft/lbs

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
