Bad thing about the diesels are they eat driveshafts for breakfast. Every diesel I've had needed the driveshaft rebuilt. Haven't done the 1782 yet. One thing to remember when going back together is not to overtighten the nuts on the rag joints. Some guys crank them down and distort the rag joints. That will shorten the life of the rags and cause premature failure. They are locking nuts and need to be tight, not as tight as possible. That's one nice thing about the CV shafts, no rag joints. Looking forward to the progress. Keep the pics coming.
Josh

Your 1782 has the CV style shaft, just make sure you grease it a couple times a year and it will be happy. I'm sure you know that the shaft has grease fitting in it that direct the grease into the joint.

Yep Sam. I knew it had the CV joint. I meant to say I hadn't rebuilt it yet. Figured I'd pull it apart and clean things up good and replace anything needing replaced. Then grease it well. She's alittle sloppy and vibrates. Haven't looked into it yet. Too many projects, too little time.

So let me get this straight, you have a 782D with a CV style front? Got any pics of that?

Here's a link on Youtube I found a couple years ago when surfing. The 782D's owner added the CV driveshaft to his tractor as well as power steering. If you check his other vids, he has one with it running as well IIRC.

Default 782D CV style drive shaft

Just a couple of photo's of a cv drive shaft I put in my 782D.
Sam Mac had the adapters for the engine and the pin style
transmission shaft.
Had to have the drive shaft cut and welded back together
to fit in the shorter 78d frame.
Works great but still have the old spring pin to hold the adapter
to the trans shaft. That would be my weak point.

Joe

Do you have pics of the shaft itself? I'd like to see what you did in the area where you shortened it.

Thinking about the pump adapter, if I do any more of them I'm going to drill + tap them 90degrees from the spirol pin for 2 set screws just for some extra grip on the pump shaft.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
