I just replaced the crank seal on my father's 1862. When I went to pull out the old seal, it was so loose in the housing that even with the smallest amount of force the seal slid further onto the shaft into the cavity with no resistance. In talking to my dealer about this, he said he's done several of these and said make sure to use a gasket cement like "Indian Head" on the OD of the new seal to make sure it's well gripped/attached. I did that about 3 weeks ago, still not leaking a drop of oil.

Because of my work schedule, I punted this time and had the local CC dealer pick it up and do the work. Hopefully I never have to deal with this again, but if I do, at least it doesn't seem like a horrible project. I'll have my 1641 back next week

never had to do a crank seal. but i am doing a engine job on my 100.
