ED! hopefully, I can catch this one before it happens: DO NOT SANDBLAST THE ENGINE!! Tins, bolt on parts ok, but do not expose the internal casting to sand! Guess how I know... I heard the news after I did it, but the damage was done. There is no way to get the glass/ sand/ media out of the cast, and it finds its way around with oil flow.

I cleaned the block in an ultra sonic cleaner. The tranny I used cup brushes on the grinder. I used brass bolts on the seat bracket because I had them laying around for years now and figured they would be sufficient for the seat.

Brass bolts are not very strong...I would replace those with grade 5 bolts, which is what was originally used on there. You certainly don't want those to break while you are on it and cause you to get hurt.

I haven't had much time to work on it lately. I did manage to get the hitch blasted and painted.
I made the lift rod out of stainless. I still need to drill the pin hole. ![]() ![]() The original front wheels had the valve stem on the outside. I welded that hole shut and installed them on the inside for a cleaner look.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
