Well,
We had the Original hooked up to the sled for the first time today. My son pulled it once in the 1050 (Kids) class and I pulled it in the 1050 (Adults). It only wieghed in at 850lbs so, we were giving up a LOT on weight. It has 8.5" ags on it and I was curious to see how the belt would do under those conditions. Turns out, that it did rather well! Never heard a squeak out of it, but the tires sure did spin. ![]() He pulled in low and I pulled it in 2nd. He pulled 102ft and I pulled 96". (It was a LONG drive home) ![]() I've got a line on a set of 10.5 ags and I might try them next month. Overall, the little tractor did fine. In fact, I'll be learning to throttle back a little bit. We've been thinking at some point we'll do a ring/gasket job on the ol' girl and while we were talking to a guy there, he said he had a good engine that he would GIVE us so that we could go through that one while we still have the engine running in ours! It was a good day and Jr. said he had a great time. What more could you ask for? |

Been working on the Original!
Have been terrorizing the local pulling track with it and having a ball. We've pretty much worked out most of the bugs with the belts and have plenty of power. the 23x10.5x12s were the weak link and we always dug in deep before we ran out of power. We've added some weight and that helped a little, but still we were spinning. Of course, the natural progression is to go bigger! ![]() We installed a set of 26x12x12s Firestone 23 floatation tires from M. E. Tire. We also got some 10.5-inch rim rings and hubs from them so we could set the backspacing for our application. Here I'm installing the rim for final fit before we pulled out the metallic hot glue. Gotta keep all feet and arms inside the vehicle now! Heading out tomorrow to try her out and see what gives first, the engine, the belt or traction! We've been pulling in 2nd and even throttling back, spun each time ,so even if we need to go down into first with the taller tire, that should be fine. Will let you know more once we've had a chance to try her out. |

What a great story! Your O is a real pulling tractor. Thanks for the pics! I will be interested in hearing how the new wide wheels and tires do. When you get a little belt squeak, then you will be maxing out the power!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
