MattG,
Patton Acres aka quietline has one on ebay item number 230746395824 right now for $220 plus shipping and I figured with them being a sponsor they would have good parts that's what I used for a reference price. Welders around here will charge me a flat hour even if it only takes 5 minutes and that will be $50 or more depending on their mood. I may just pull it and bite the $$ bullet anyways and be done with it. I'm in no hurry to get it back together so I may tear it completely down and just start a rebuild. What other issues do you know about this particular model I should check?

Congrats on the new Super! Check for worn bushing and tie rod ends in the front end. I replaced my bushings and replaced the tie rods with Rod ends. There's a write up around here somewhere. Same with front wheel bearings. Check out the lift arm and make sure it's not cracked. Also check the gap on the PTO and look for overheating in the wiring connectors on the left side relay for the PTO and the ignition switch. Pull the starter and go through it per Matt's write up on here. The biggest issue may be the Walbro carb throw it away and replace it with a rebuildable and adjustable carb off a KT17. I also have a thread on that. Check my profile. If you need picture references feel free to browse this album. Pics of everything I've done to my 1872. Down to frame and back a few times.

You can also use the rear housing from the parts tractor. You must change the gear reduction gears they are different. Just find you a hydro from a 149 and use the cast iron case you will still need to change all the internals but it will never fail again.just some more ideas for you. If you were closer i a good case one of each cast or al. Just trying to help out joe

Here's the plan so far DX3 is coming down Saturday with a welder to remove the bolts. After all the suggestions I may try to find a cast case and do a switch out over the winter. Is the switch out something that an average mechanically ability with average tools can do?

You should be able to do it. The gear reduction housing will have to come off and the gears changed.matt may have a write up on this if not vince o. Just done one and he may chime in on this it should be a straight forward change out. The reduction gears are diff. For the regearing for the 26 12 12 tires but you should be able to do it. Just keep the parts separate you also can take pics. For reference if you have ? You can look at them. Just trying to help joe

The only 'special' tool I can think of at the moment that you'll really need is a dial indicator and magnetic base to set the backlash, but even a cheap Harbor Freight one will do.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
