S10s imo were Chevy's best vehicle. such a shame they got discontinued. my buddy had an 87 S10 that he towed a 16ft car trailer with and two crushed cars to the scrap yard a few times a year, plus a ton of scrap in the back of the truck. what a sight to see there!

how much did those black weights weigh I come up with about 800lbs not to much for a S10 yes they hang the backend but don't mean its over weight just drives not to nice

You weren't even close to overloaded for an S10...

I've owned an '89, '98, and '01 S10 (all 2wd, 4 cyl, 5 speeds)... The '89 and '98 both had over 2300lbs of composted soil in their beds many times. The '98 had to do it down the highway... It went 65 in the slow lane, with the cruise set, with out issue.

I KNOW I took a picture of the '89 with 2500lbs of dirt in its bed, but the best I can do at the moment is the front 1/3 of a '99 Jeep Cherokee in the back of it!! I also swapped the factory 4.11:1 rear with a 3.08:1 rear from a 2.8L V6 automatic S10 into that truck... No issues (my snooty uncle made a comment about how it must have been completely gutless after the swap, to which I replied 30' of rubber *in second gear* in front of his ritzy new house.. Yes... I beat it to tar doing it do... 6000rpm [guessing] clutch dump ) It just took forever to get to highway speed, but once it did I was getting almost 30mph out of a brick-in-the-wind 80s pick-up truck @ 75mph. It had those gears in it when I brought that 1/3 XJ home.

My '01 pulls a 1500lb trailer with a cub + deck and 500lbs of nick knacks in the bed fairly well... The bigger problem is brakes (same issue with all the other S10s... The '89 had manual steering.... A ton or so made it turn like a dream and stop on an aircraft carrier...)..

If Chevy (which I now-a-days detest) would build me a new '98 Extended cab 4 cylinder 5-speed S10 at anything less than $30k, I couldn't get to the dealership fast enough.

...and just for nostalgia's sake... my '98 S-10's Craiglist picture before I sold it in 2010 for $1400 (you can see my white '01 in the background).. I should have kept it!!! STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!
