Even your mower deck looks pretty good. That's a 38 inch deck. you can tell by the grease zerks on the outer spindles being in the inner holes of the belt covers. My 86 has the same style deck on it without gauge wheels. The blade looks good too. It all looks good! Its very hard to find tail lights in that good of shape. Good score!

Congrats Chris! I'd put that pretty high on the score list. I'd say 8, but only because it is short on options.

IMHO I think that is an 8. If it were a less desirable 1X8, 1X9 I would say lower but you don't see many 86's or ones in that shape. If it were mine, I don't think I would want those chains slinging around near those lights or a near perfect fender pan. I bet if that tractor was washed and the paint buffed out it would be show quality for an original machine. Very nice find Chris.

Yea, and even has the original 181 Kohler air cleaner! Pretty interesting information given about the taillight/reflectors, I might add. To tell the truth, about any IH Cub Cadet or Cub Cadet Corporation garden tractor is hard to come by, even here in Cleveland! I have come across a good deal, and found a good 1250 in the scrap yard. Glad you were able to take advantage of the model 86 recently acquired ! What's that black knob that's missing? Mine is missing on my 1250 too.
Yes, maybe a nice clean up and call it good! Only original once!

Looks mighty fine to me. I have trouble finding running tractors, much less ones in this condition. I love that series, it's my favorite.

Thanks guys!
The 8 score sounds good maybe the pictures don't show it all. But seems to be all there and in working order. Still learning about this 86 unit. I will try to get the numbers in the next few days. Mike, I was wondering on the muffler looked odd to me. Glad you confirm its the right one. Will have to spend some time cleaning this cub up this summer. IA Cub Cadet, Thanks for the info on the deck size. Oak, Yea those chains my have to go, now that I know more about those lights ![]() Regards, Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
