My 105 is always in the garage which is attached to the house, I wouldnt expect cold to be an issue here. Im fine working in there with a long sleeve shirt and light fleece.

I had a friend over with a questionable harbor freight compression gauge and it hit 40psi cranking over. I was unable to properly "rip cord" the engine in reverse to get a reading that way.

I did notice that I have some decent amount of spark going on with my points with a big arcing every once in a while. Although I have what looks like good spark at my plug. Is this normal? Should I try swapping out the condenser?

Points look brand new. Engine is a K241A so at least i know it isn't 50 years old.

I think you need to go to the Technical Library - Tractors, down load the manuals concerning your engine and your tractor and read them before you do anything more.

Thanks for all your help guys, I was finally able to get it started today. It turns out the good spark I thought I had was actually pretty weak. Over the course of the past few weeks it turned to no spark while I was installing a Kirk Engines PointSaver module, with the condenser eliminated and my points gap set perfectly, I replaced the ignition coil and now I have an excellent big blue spark at the plug.

I have one concern though, after it started running, the muffler started bleeding smoke and turning black near one of the pipe connections. Do you guys think this is just two weeks of unlit fuel sitting there burning up? would it be safe to just let it run and burn off? i mean it was an alarming amount of smoke. After it started the normal amount of smoke came out of the muffler end, but then it seemed to die down a bit and exclusively come out of this pipe connection, which of course has been untouched this entire time.

video of it smoking, click to play I guess?

The smoke doesn't look bad to me. Perhaps just some oil or fuel burning off. Looks more like something burning off the exterior of the pipe/muffler than a leak the way it looks wispy. I'd run it and watch it.

Thanks, I'm going to check that elbow connection out and make sure its tight, then let it run/burnoff. Then put my thrower belt back on. Then clean the snow I didn't shovel yesterday. I did just enough to reverse out, k turn, and a nice little tire path out. More snow in New England this weekend!

Thanks guys! She started up again today which was very exciting. I noticed she prefers 3/4 choke to start so I'm guessing something needs to be adjusted but she starts nonetheless.

Of course in the past few weeks I noticed my PTO wasn't disengaging(properly adjusted, 1/64th away from thrust button when arm in engaged position) which isn't a problem if your tractor isn't running...but IS a problem when you start it and it destroys your PTO lever wear button within a few seconds. That was stupid of me to leave it "disengaged" I guess. I guess I've got my work cut out for me before Monday.

It sounded great at WOT and the smoking eventually went away.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
