OK this time with a pic. The pic shows what a disconnect clutch looks like. This was in a 1572, not sure if the 1512 had this or not. I looked at the drive line on parts tree and didn't see it. Anyway the disconnect clutch is pointed out with the red arrow. What you need to tell us is if the pump input shaft is turning while the engine is running, it's pointed out with the green arrow.

The 1512 drive shaft is a solid rod, no disconnect. Here is my factory shaft, and other components.

It was an option on a 1512. May or may not have one.

I think I had said earlier it came out with one..... that was my mistake. Some of the diesels did and I thought the 1512 did. No, it was an option for it, but not standard equipment.

Jon's correct, it was on option on 1512's. Mine has one. So does my 1572 and 1772. They all work fine. If they cause me a problem down the road, I'll go to solid driveshafts.

Loader,
Any time to dissect your problem and update us with what you found?

I thank you all for the comments, input, ideas, and being complete so as to not assume that I've checked all the basics. Has anyone gone to fix something and didn't check the most simple things first? I know there wasn't any frustration and didn't take it that way. I just try to put all information so when people are helping we don't get to a point where someone says "Well, I wish you had said that earlier! That changes things!"

I checked the pin at the pump. I punched it out and put it back in. It's intact. Then I thought about an earlier comment about how I wouldn't be able to turn the engine over that easily and there could be a disconnect. I looked for that.

Thanks for the picture and no, mine doesn't have that. It is a solid shaft as pictured. It does have double rubbers at both ends. I remember that I did that years ago because it was eating them.

I pulled the shaft to inspect everything and the pin at the engine end had sheered off. For some reason that broken pin did NOT want to come out!

I do have the shaft rebuilt but ran out of time to complete reassembly. I hold high hopes that everything will be functioning perfectly when I get it back together.

This is why I come here. You guys saved me a great deal of time as I was preparing to pull the rear and tear apart the pump. I would have left the shaft in place and gone through a great deal of trouble and expense for no reason.

I'll update you when I know for certain.

Thanks for the update.
If you can find a distributer of those coil pins besides cub cadet, buy some extras they are a wear item. Cub distributors are pricey for them.

Here is a post from Sam Mac from when I needed pins.

Glad you found the problem Loader and it was fairly simple. Worse part about it was pulling the driveshaft to get to the front pin I'm sure.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
