Hello. Here is a link to the original 149 sales brochure that might help with the paint colors.

I took the wheels in to have the tires de-mounted. I'm buying paint tomorrow and hopefully will get the wheels sprayed and tires mounted. I have new 23x8.5-12 Carlisle tri-powers and I'm moving my firestone tri-ribs over from the sears tractor. New battery waiting to go it. New tail light lenses that snap right onto the existing light bases. I lost the built in reflector, but for $2.50 each instead of $30 for used, it's worth it. I actually bought whole new lights and just used the lenses as it was the nearly the same price using amazon rather than paying $10 shipping for $4 worth of lenses from an RV store. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yesterday I bead blasted, sanded and painted the wheels and weights. I found IH weights on craigslist an hour from me. Tune up kit and new battery installed too. I'm going to attempt to mount the tires today.
![]() Think it was time for a filter?

Looks good zimm17 and yes that filter needed replacing--not a day too soon!! But why didn't you repaint all of the rims---the inside part? To me, repainting just the part that is visible is like a smoker who uses tooth whitening agents....they only fix what shows but what about the condition of the inside, which to me is far more important.
Also, before you remount the tires, are you using tubes? You may want to as the moisture from the air is corrosive over time to the inside of the rims. Cub Cadet 123

Yes I'm using tubes. The painting conditions were terrible- 45 degrees, howling wind, had the spray cans in a pot of warm water, and the portable heater to warm up the parts. If I did it all over again... I would have at least used primer on the insides of the wheels. The case/IH paint doesn't cover as good as rustoleum, but it sets up thick.
I wrestled the front two tires on. The 4 ply ti-ribs are STIFF. I had to use a vice to squish the sidewalls to get them on. I did bone up the paint on the insides of the front- that will require some touchup. But since it's 10 degrees outside, that'll have to be another day. ![]() The next "issue" is that my wheel weight bolts are too long! After I blasted, primed and painted them. I need to buy some shorter ones. (parts guide calls for 5 1/4"). Mine are 6". I can get 18-8 stainless from mcmaster carr for $2 each (316 stainless are $8 each! ouch). Or should I just run them as-is with two washers?

Well that would save me $38 in hardware.... Let me get the angle grinder out.
Update- complete and looks pretty good. I had a heck of time with the rear tire- ended up popping the tube. I'll take it over to the tire shop Monday for proper mounting. Now to pack front bearings and at least get the front wheels on. Then pull the tunnel and install new hydraulic pressure release thingy to the lever.

Nice looking 149. Hopefully I have some motivation and time this summer to do some painting on the 169 and blade.

The old iron guard enamel is ok.... it's better than say Van Sickle. But it's not great paint. It fades with time pretty bad. |

I got the tunnel stripped, primed, painted, and new decals. I'm glad I saved it when I did, it was almost rotted through at the front corners!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
