If you go a different route than the M-18 I would be interested in it. The one in my 1862 launched the gov weights through the side of the block last spring on the first start up of the season. Still runs great but man what an oil leak.

Well, I got it running today! new float bowl gasket, and it started up and ran. the shaft is turning, and the charge pump is, but I have no hydraulic action at all. the wheels will not roll back and forth either, they are stuck solid, unless you roll one by itself then the diff works. doesn't look like it has the popoff style valves in it like my diesel does. I need to borrow them and see if it works that way, and I have a new filter. just have to tinker with it awhile and see what I can figure out. is there a service manual specific to the hydro trans?

1862 should have the Sundstrand pump. Post a pic of what you have and we can go from there.

Yep, it's a Sundstrand. So in the order of things to check.
1: Oil level 2: Clogged or frozen filter 3: Defective charge pump If it's been sitting out in the cold, get it inside and warmed up. Crack the drain plug and see if you get water out of it. If you do drain it and change the oil and the filter. No you don't need to spring for the expensive Hy-Tran at this point, the stuff from Wally-World will do for testing. NAPA1410, Wix51410 filter or the Cub filter. Wix or NAPA should be cheaper.

its been in a 55 degree shop for 2 days now. shouldn't be frozen. kinda worried since it doesn't want to roll at all. hoping someone didn't move it and blow up the pump.

I'm not liking the sound of that. Pop the rear cover and see what it looks like. Take the filter off and cut it open and look for metal.
After that take the charge pump off and see if it took a dump. For whatever it's worth one of my standard operating procedures on a used machine is to cut the filter open, this is what a good one looks like inside. If you find metal you have a problem.

yeah I was thinking of yanking the cover and making sure there wasn't any pieces in there. also wondering if the drive pin for the charge pump might have sheared. wonder how common that is? prob not real common.
guess I got some work to do tomorrow. I want to know what it is soon.

I've seen a couple broken rotors in the charge pump but it's not a common failure problem. Do you have PS or lift? Those are both run from the charge pump.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
