Nick,I would pull the pan to see what crawled in there,or at least see if the drain plug is not stripped....

It is not stripped Lew, but I may pull it, I was told to run it with diesel and oil and then flush it out, I stuck a screwdriver in there and it looked ok.

I'd have to agree with Justin106. I'd just flush it with some oil then fill it and run it and drain. if you do take the pan off take the rod cap off to and check it. the Briggs model 17 & 19 engines are pretty hard to find parts for. I rebuilt a 17 about 10 years ago and had trouble finding a connecting rod and piston for it. got lucky and posted a wanted add on the simpletractors site and a dealer contacted me that had some NOS stuff

Ok thanks, I pulled the carb and took it apart and cleaned it, it looked pretty good, it looks to have been rebuilt before, I noticed the intake gasket was broken so I removed that and replaced it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
