Great find. I have its older brother, the 72, and I'll vouch that it's my favorite. You're going to have a ball with it.

I am looking at a sleeve hitch from a cub cadet original. Would it work on my 1970 model 73 or will I need to make adapters.
Also, the dual wheel that were on it had no spacers. can any one give me some tips on making them?

No, you can't use the sleeve hitch from an O it' won't work. Need to find one for a NF.
There are guys who build the dual wheel spacers. Glad you finally got a CC! |

I recommend xtrememotorworks for the spacers. Don't spend too much time there though, you'll find all kinds of other toys you'll want there! Seriously though, their customer service is top notch.

What was the difference between the sleeve hitches? could it be modified to fit the newer tractor?

This is the hitch. The top mount is a separate bolt on mount. On my tractor it would go in the channel of the frame. could the (for lack of a better term) pin holder or pin lifter from the original fit in the channel of my tractors frame? |

The "O"s sleeve hitch was made completely different. The "arm" on it angled up, whereas all others came down. Sleeve hitches aren't all that hard to come by at all. Put up an ad in our "Wanted" section or check with the sponsors above.
Here are some pics: "O" sleeve hitch (incomplete assm): O sleeve hitch.jpg Sleeve hitch for a 73 (complete assm): (The lifting section is upside down) sh73.jpg I buy a lot from these guys and they have one for a 73 in stock: http://ihccw.com/sleevehitch.html |

Thanks. I will probably wait until I start to restore it to really start adding on to the tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
