So sorry for your loss. He gave you a lawnmower and an old engine, must have known you would appreciate and care for both. I looked back at some of your earlier posts and saw the one with the kids assisting in the engine rebuild--the memories your dad helped create there will last for a mighty long time.

I've always tried to take time, with anybody and explain something. Started with my oldest daughter helping doing dishes when she was two or younger. Then we moved up to tools and such when I worked on things. With my grand kids if they want to help with something ( as long as it's safe) I let them and explain things.
I'm one of those "jack of all trades and a master of none". The main thing I learned from dad, by watching him. Was you can do most anything. Dad was a High school drop out who joined the Navy at 17 and becoming a A/P mechanic . He didn't stay in that field when he got out. I never asked why. He did own and fly a few planes. Always a wheeler dealer would buy, work on and sell most anything. He would work on the CB radios, TV's, guns, planes and cars. I saw him once pull a automatic transmission apart, not sure if it went back together. He couldn't fix things perfect but good enough. The thing he would say when he had a problem was" You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear".
Twenty-three years ago mom and dad moved out into the country on a forty acre piece of property. It had nine different old structures that I helped tear down. One still remains the old barn, which I'm going to fix back up. So grand kids explore and play.
As dad would wear something out he'd hand it down to me. He was a firm believer in if it ain't broke don't fix. The first thing he gave me was a Honda four-trax 1993. then Cub cadet 1811 and last the old Maytag 92. I would take things home and give them some TLC. When he'd see them again he would say " I should have kept that". He always was surprised how good things looked and ran after I worked on them.
Okay I've shed enough tears typing this.
Rest in peace Dad, Thank you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
