Jonathan quite the contrary when it comes to these little tractors I know very little. My knowledge is limited to the 72 series supers that is all I deal with I have owned and worked on about 30 to date. That is why I do not have thousands and thousands of posts. I only post when I am sure of what I say or when asking for help. What I do know is that as you can see in the pictures and Sam's diagram that my part is OEM.

I am of the opinion that there are probably two versions of the top link. The illustration that Sam posted shows a link JUST like the one drcjv showed in his picture. The one J-Mech refers to is just like a couple that I have. I would almost bet that MTD offered both types at different times. JMO
We are very aware that there seems to be a lot of variables with thing CUb Cadet related!

Seems like a good trade off. I can put five Cubs where one car sat and there are no titles or license to fool with!

Thank you all for your input. I was hoping that a NOS OEM link could be located ("they don't make them") but you have provided some options including one as near OEM as is possible today. Thanks, Steve

Doesn't look OEM to me.... You even had the chance to get an "OEM" one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
