Default New cadet from Missouri checking in

Greetings everyone!

The name is John, I just bought my first house with about an acre of property on it and have suddenly come to realize a trimmer just won't Cut it...I quickly realized I was going to need a tractor. When my father passed last july I took on his craftsman 46 incher but it needs a lot of work so I am going to sell it cheap to get it gone because my friend who has a nice little collection of mostly ford tractors offered up for free a cub model 147 with IIRC a 50 inch deck.
Hence why I am here. I found Rob_M's build thread on his 147 with front loader and realized I need that in my life. So I am going to take on that 147 (it also needs work and I'll be posting a help thread in the appropriate section after I search and see what I can see)

The 147 once fixed up will serve as a mower and also to tend to my RC car tracks to move dirt for jumps and drag and grate the track as well as some brush clearing.

I have a fairly extensive automotive mechanical background, including engine swaps, turbo builds and ground up restorations and especially love rotary engines and RX7's (hence the username) and I have been fabricating for about 26 years.

I was really in the camp of a lawn tractor is a lawn tractor but after my buddy described the hydrostatic drive and then borrowing a newer cub to mow my yard I was pretty hooked. I had only ever driven belt and clutch drive mowers before... I already feel like a mower snob. These cubs are pretty awesome!

Anyway, I look forward to digesting a ton of info and to start off my 147 build very soon!

Thanks for having me!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
