I have yet to make an offer on the second one, the owner is asking $285.00 What would be a good counter offer? I am having a hard time finding consistent pricing and I do not wish to offend them

If it's something you need/want and they are hard to find, then don't try to save too many dollars. You'll regret not having the creeper way more often than you'll regret not having another $20.

I am with Ambush here. If you want it just buy it. There are only so
many of these old machine parts around.
You might however get a little more for your 285. Like does he have
the driveshaft that was with it when it came out. He won't need it
without the creeper gear. That way you could keep your original one.

Like others have offered their advice, buy it,refurbish it,save your drive shaft.Once you get it installed,a neat learning experience about your tractor. You will enjoy it,and wonder how you could get along without it.Let us know about your experiences as we all learn

Default Excellent`

Part of our job here at OCC is to enable our common addictions.

Feel free to ask any more "shall I get it" type questions and we'll be glad to help.

Congrats though and please share how it goes together on your tractor.

Alright, now that I have creeper coming what length do I need to cut the shaft to? I don’t think my current shaft is original as it doesn’t have the line scribed in it.

I'm afraid to go out and measure mine. Being that it's a wide frame, there might be a difference.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
