I've only got one good one, and two useless legs, and sit down. If I can do repairs, I'm thinking you can handle it.

Dusted off the 986
I needed to cut some waay overdue grass at the shop today.. The old yellow 982(986) has been sitting in the corner neglected for about a year... so I dusted off the seat.. helped her just a bit with a booster box and away she went! Took a minute and slipped the deck back under and mowed an hour or so without missing a beat!
I forget how much smoother and more powerful these old Onans are than the Kohlers till I run one just a minute.. The old Onan has a different tone to it.. and no matter how hard you choke it up you won't bring it to it's knees... It just keeps on digging for more! It does have a fondness for gasoline though!! Small price to pay for all the smooth torque!

Thanks Allen.. I had just agreed to buy this tractor a few weeks before your Red 982 came up for sale... I was kicking myself.. even thought about backing out and buying yours but didn't.. this one turned out to be a really nice well kept original tractor.. But I still really want a Red 982!
Thank you!... I really enjoy this tractor when I take the time to actually work it.. Thanks Todd! This has turned out to be one of the tightest most original tractors I have ever owned.. haven't done much to it other than an oil change and one battery.. the guy even sharpened the blades before he sent the tractor to me!!

Had some heavy rains this week. Used the 125 and an old trailer to pick up all the gravel out of my yard before I mow.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
