Make sure the vent hole in your gas cap is not clogged.

Looking at the carburetor, I don't have sleeve where the inlet needle goes, but it did have a seat at the bottom which I replaced with the one that came with the rebuild kit. Still didn't work. Start great, had good power but ran for a bit and then stopped.

So I broke down and put on the knockoff carb from Amazon. Again, started right up, great power, but again it stopped. Two runs around the yard and parked it with the engine running. 15 minutes later it stopped. Only difference was that towards the very end, it sounded like the governor was oscillating. That happened for at a minute before it stopped.

I have about given up on it. Not really sure I want to tackle taking the head off, etc. Mostly because I don't think I have all of the tools that I would need to put it back together. Also, the trans-axle needs to be rebuilt. Very stiff to shift.

Any suggestions on what to do with it. I would like to get it running, sans trans-axle, if I can.

Thank you for everyone's help on this. It has been a lot of years since I delved into this kind of stuff.

The governor is oscillating because it is likely the fuel has gone lean! It has been said from the beginning that you have a fuel problem. I suspect the problem isn't in the carburetor but somewhere from the top of the tank to the fuel line terminating at the carburetor. You are not getting enough fuel into the carb to keep up with the demand from the engine!

What I would do right now is disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor and observe the fuel flow.... Into a container safe for fuel, of course. It should run freely and not dribble. If it dribbles, then it's like following the yellow brick road! What do you observe?
