Drive shaft and belt.
Quote:
Yes I noticed it when it was done. Was going over the photo's and there it was big as day. Guess I overlooked it when trying to get the shaft installed. but now it only takes four bolts and the belt can be replaced. |

782D drive shaft
Quote:
No did not take any photo's of the shaft before installing it. Best I could do is this one. You can see the back half and the weld. Cut a piece out of the original shaft so the two remaining pieces would equal the length I thought would work. Then the two pieces were pressed into a 2" sleeve and welded in a lath. With room for the joints to move on the splines. Allowing for the flex of the engine mounts. The 15 5/16" was the measurement between the surface of the front adapter and the surface of the rear adapter: On my 782D. Joe |

Well I am going with a factory drive shaft, picking it up today. My question is, is there any reason to use pins in the drive shaft instead of bolts n nuts? IF bolts will work just as well, should I use a soft bolt or a hard bolt?
As for the steering gear, I am waitin on the upgrade, and cam follower. Most everything else is done, small coolent hoses, alt belt, stat, starter conversion, and glow plug conversion are finished.

Spirol pins only or you will egg shape the holes and then you will get to replace everything all over.

Thanks for the response Sam, I am having problems finding spirol pins, or even a cub # on them. Anybody have a source? Is two roll pins ( 1 inside of the other ) a bad idea also?

Ace Hardware, Napa, possibly Menards, stores of that type should have what you need. And no, that's not the best idea.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
