That would be just fine with me! I'm glad the repairs were this easy to preform. I know and have seen other times where the repair man was not as fortunate.

Nice job! I'd be a bit concerned about wearing out the C channel given the tension on the joint. A stud and 2 nuts in there carefully backed out (to expand the "C" might have allowed you to sneak up on it some.

OTOH with .030 play I'd probably have never picked up a wrench. My poor O is probably more like .3"

I never realized how much .034" of play the front axel had until I disassembled the steering components and measured. Imagine .034 thousandths of play a piston would have inside a cylinder. There was a definite audible sound "knock-knock" when turning left or right. It was like having a squeekie wheel, lol!

I like this thread. It makes me want to get out and tear into my 147. You documented it well and the photos helped. I'll be checking into this thread when I go to work on mine, whenever that is. I would have never thought about measuring the gap/appropriate thickness on the axle.

Hey there! I was looking for a thread on front axel removal on my 127. It looked like johncub7172 did a nice job on documenting everything but no pic's to view.I am slowly removing parts here and there and sandblasting them and putting them back on. So I was wondering if removing it was worth the effort. Unfortunately all the pics were deleted on this thread and couldn't find anything on youtube either. As far as I can tell you have to remove the roll pins on both sides and knock out the axel pin, is that correct? I have that vertigo bs going on right now and laying down and looking up is not pleasant.
Thanks for any help on this. Maybe be just better to do it on the tractor than removing it?

Should be only one spirol pin on the front.
You will have to either shim the "c" channel in place or remove the axle and squeeze with a large bolt, washers and a nut.
Either way the axle pin will have to be removed and possibly replaced if excessive wear is noted.
Good time to ad a grease fitting to the axle if one is not installed.
The 70 I have been working on did not have one so I installed one.
