I bought the 2072. It is in good shape and has been gone over by a man that knows them. All the little things have been fixed and every little thing is there and in place. Lot of new items, fuel pump, clutch, tires, battery, belts etc.... I payed him for it. It has the older 50 inch deck but is smooth and quiet. I mowed my back lot at the house, 50 by 20 yard, at an idle in just a few minutes. It is a 20 hp, no smoke, good oil pressure, sounds good, clean and neat. It will need the engine pulled and governor fixed. That's well within my ability. It didn't have the pto, just the 3 point hitch, darnet, but o well. going to buy the 2284 tomorrow.

LoL, I can understand your impression and answer on this subject although it isn't an answer to what I ask and is not the real truth. I did get the information I was wanting. Either one is a good tractor! And not too overly priced if not too worn out. My concern was if the 2284 was junk or not when it was new, as it is newer than the ones I have worked with an I wasn't sure. Just for the record just because I am a new member doesn't mean I can't do anything and don't know anything about a cub. I can rebuild anything on them if it can be rebuilt. I have been working cubs since 85 and making them work hard and fixing whatever all along the way. They just weren't the supers. No I don't know everything, that's why I asked. I don't need to flip anything to make a decision. I may go buy a smoker too just because it would make me happy. lol

Thanks John, and all... And J- mech for the more indepth about the tiller. I wonder if a hydraulic pump could be mounted on the tiller to power it and run hoses and all.. I will try to get you guys some photos pretty soon. Its a beautiful day, Enjoy it while You Can. Thanks again.

You did well on the 2072 at that price with the cat 0. The 2284 is another good machine. When you pull the Mag 20 to rebuild make sure to start a new post so we can see how it goes. Oh ya, we like lots of pictures too.

I did get the 2284, neat as a pin nearly lol. will need a carb kit, but got 2 extra sets of both belts, 3 sets of new blades and 2 sets of used ones. the linkage seems to need adjusted for hydro drive. a spring in one wheel of the 60 inch Haban is missing. The little pegs holding the sides on are broken and a bungee cord used to hold them on,,, but it's a clean machine. his wife nearly cried, it was hers.. it mowed really well when I got it home..

I do have hydraulic pump submerged in tank stuff off a 5 ton dump but doubt it is what would work. would have to study it all a bit. It's not normal what all junk I got lol
