Well gentlemen, patience and persistence has prevailed. They brought the machine back to me in a week, with a new hood/stickers, and modified muffler/shield. I've mowed twice with it, as the season is coming to an end, and have noticed no melting, but it did take 31 hours to melt the first hood. By the time spring rolls around, and I can put another 30 hours or so on the clock, the warranty will have expired and I'm on my own.
I am pleased beyond words to report the dealer contacted me today, and respectfully requested I bring the machine back and get my money back!!
I've won gents. The BBB, attorney Generals office, and the Federal consumer safety board has came down hard and dished me some justice
Guess the process starts all over again on the search for the ultimate garden tractor- I dont mind, something will come along

I suggest if you want the ultimate garden tractor to look along the lines of the kubota bx series, anything but the green company.... if you want to keep it modern.

I'm happy with my BX and Bota stands behind the product big time.

Wow, what a ride. Shame you had to go through all that just to get em to buy it back, but all's well that ends well. Thanks for documenting it here.

You'd think after the problems they had when they switched to the new plastic hoods on the 2500s that they would have done the sufficient R&D on that part of the product.....Sheesh. I own an MTD Cub there are some things from 1999 that with a bit of R&D would have saved for the tractor as well.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
