The 147 is kind of like The Hulk of garden tractors, busting out of its frame.

I really prefer the NF models, I just like the old school look. If I needed to squeeze a bigger motor in I would notch the frame and reinforce the cut out as needed. Thought about an EVO big twin but then considered I might cut grass way too fast..lol

Congrats on your 108. I have one, too. Bought it used from a dealer in 1978 for $1500 (a LOT of money back then!). It's been cutting grass, hauling stuff, pushing snow, etc,. for all these years and never has let me down. It's built like a tank! I'm currently going through mine, doing a 40 Year Service. (clutch, PTO, steering, etc). I'm repainting most of it (though it's not a "full restoration" like some folks are doing) and replacing the seat, decals, etc. I installed lights on mine about 20 years ago, just put a headlight grill with rubber "grommet-like" bulb holders (not sure what the exact name is) in it, and wired the lights to a toggle switch on the dash.

You will love that tractor. And no, the hole in the hood is not stock.

Pictures are coming. Right now it looks like it puked all it's parts all over my shop!

Great to hear about your 108! WF's are nice, and you will like the gear tranny.

Welcome aboard Garnold. This forum is full of lots and lots of knowledge!!!! Don't be afraid to ask questions. Now I got a question for you... Could you take some pics of that hood and the gas tank. It must be a huge aftermarket gas tank that was put in there by a previous owner. I'm just curious that's all...

Happy cubbing

Np, happy too
I was told the original metal ones rusted out pretty easy? I didn't make this change on my cub but guessing the owner needed to replace a rusted one.

Really would like to see what you are doing to yours. Also interested in your headlight idea.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
