I bought it from the Ebay link, here it is.

I'll put it in the 1864 in the next month or so.

I gotta ask a dumb question. How do you gain 4HP by changing out the carb?

The internals are the same and the only difference is the carb. I'm sure Sam will expand these details for me. Same engine/parts but different carb part number.

Todd
I forgot where I got the tip in the first place but if you look up all the part numbers for the, crank, rods, pistons, cam, heads for a CH18 in a 2185 and the CH22 in a 2284 the only thing that changes is the carb. Creative marketing maybe, I don’t know for sure. Guess we will have to wait till Duke does the swap for a report.

Kohler does this all the time.

The ECH680 that I bought last year comes in 19, 21 and 23 HP. The only differences are the fuel injection computer and the governor spring.

For the 1864 the carb on the CH18 is not sized and jetted right to take full advantage of the rest of the engine.

I get a kick out of the price differences that Kohler gets for more HP even though the cost of the engine is the same.

The best one was the Magnum 18 in the 1541. I had dealers swear that it was actually a 15HP motor. A look a the parts manual showed that the only difference between the 1541 and 1862 motor was the sticker on the air cleaner.

Maybe its because i'm from Canada but i wouldn't bother to load a cyclops on my trailer. Not a fan of plastic tractors and i find them just plain ugly. Now on the other hand, i'd love to restore a 1282. I never saw one in my neck of the woods. If you bought 82 series sheet metal and put it on the 1863 that would be a cool tractor. Kent

Cyclops RULE. Hoods are not supposed to be used for plows.

I know about the Mag 15/18 deal. I think that was a Cub marketing issue. Did any other manufacturers have a mag 15? Wouldn't both engines be running too lean with the original carb on it if it was designed with a larger carb? We need a dyno at the next plow day.

I always told myself I wouldent own a cyclops too, but I have to admit they can look pretty sharp cleaned up.

For me it's pretty much for the big nice mowing deck, and to just have. I gotta say it rides and drives much smoother than the nf and wf tractors. As for the 1282 it's one heck of a deal really the only reason I am getting it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
