You will want to divert the exhaust to the front or side the noise at ear level is bad .Been there .May think about a stack brace also a lot of stack wobbling around.

Thanks for the sage advice Mike. I plan to make a mount for the belt tensioner today and then possibly add a brace from that to the exhaust stack to cut down on vibration.

My Yanmar turbo has the exhaust come out of the turbo,
in to a small muffler, then, down towards the ground. ![]() I REALLY like not having branches try to take off the exhaust pipe!! ![]() AND,,, it ALL fits under the hood! ![]() |

Last thing on the to do list was to make a mount for the belt tensioner on the cooling fan. Using the original mount as a drill pattern, I drilled the holes in a piece of 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" flat stock. That put the tensioner right back in it's original position.

The beast runs! I took Mike's advice and added a tip out to the top of the stack. That tamed the noise and got the smoke headed away from the operator. As soon as it quits raining and I figure out how to post a video I'd take from my cell phone, I'll post one of it running. Thanks to everyone for your kind comments. This was a fun build.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
