Been reading this thread. Interesting stuff. I sorta wonder if anyone has tried doing this electronically. A stepper motor and a couple potentiometers and you could have drive by wire. I would still put the peddles on the right tho.
If I tried this I think I would leave the original handle for safety reasons.

Ok now you got me curious why the other side? I can still actuate the brakes and the left pedal easily my thinking was being able to utilize the turning brakes. I also retained the hand lever.

(I guess I shouldn't say "all".... the vast majority...and all the ones I've ever seen/used are.) *Especially with a loader, (which I'm assuming that the loader hyd controls are on the right side), you get on and off the tractor on the left. Most all tractors are better designed to get on and off on the left side. If you are stepping on the left foot rest to get on, you run the risk of accidentally hit the lever and moving the tractor before you are seated. *On a car, you are supposed to use your right foot to drive. Both the throttle and the brake. So, by sheer natural habit, your right foot should be more suited to control a foot pedal. *You run the risk of trying to step on the forward pedal and the brake pedal at the same time, especially in an emergency. Questions: *If you retained the dash handle, will the foot lever self center? *How can you go forward to reverse without moving the dash lever to one side? In the neutral position, the dash lever should prevent movement to either forward or reverse as it should hit the square "neutral" section? Comments: *If you plan to add steering brakes, you really need a lock or "cruise" for the drive to hold speed while braking. *I'd like to see a pic as it is now.... that reverse lever is really high off the floorboard. |
