on some of the speedex's with the forward, neutral and reverse lever you had to change the pulleys to get different speeds. my S-19s both have the Peerless 4 speed. and Speedex is by NO MEAN hard to work on. there is nothing to them! haha. but they still pull like a bear. i pulled an 18ft field cultivator with mine up the road and around the yard actually. and some credit to Cub, i towed it with my 1440 but spun out in the loose gravel due to the turf tires. if it had ags or weight it would have worked better. i want a 140H3 JD so bad. id trade the 1440 anyday for one.

If a New Holland, WH and JD are 'so tough', why are they running Cub Cadet parts?
And thats the bottom line!

I have Cub Cadets because I want shaft drive and, besides, I want a piece of the IH history. I like JDs because of their history also, plus I would love to have a 140H3 or a 455 - awesome machines. But, right now, I want a wide frame Cub more than those (though if someone were to dropped off a JD 455, it would definitely have a home here).
True, the early WHs were small, but cute little things. I like to have another 753. |

Heck guys I bet they are all fun to play with.
I have seen many different brands of GTs made back in the day, and trouble is I just can't own all of them. My family has been IH for 3 generations, so I decided to stick with the Cub Cadets. Tmo. can testify I have owned other brands, they are all in the junk row now in favor of my Cub Cadets. (Anyone want some craftsmans and MTDs? I have a few laying around.) Any way if there wern't guys that liked other brands, none of us could afford to have a Cub Cadet. Personaly I am stuck in the sixties anyway. Good Luck and May God Bless Cadet Farmer |

Well guess what buddy, there is a JD400 for sale just about 3 doors down. I never seen one before, it looks to be a good runner. But I'll stick to my guns, if I need something a JD400 has, then I'll get it for my IH Cub Cadet!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
