Went out to fire up the ole 127 that has been sitting out back since last spring, and the old girl refused to fire up.
Put in a fresh 1/2 gallon of gas in the tank, made sure gas was going to the carb. Checked and had good spark at the plug. Removed the drive pin from the driveshaft coupler so the motor would spin over faster. Removed aircleaner assembly so to use my hand to block off air intake for full choke. After spinning the motor over a few times I noticed there was no gas going through the carb. Guess it was a bad idea to let this ole girl sit so long with out any attention. Took off the carb bowl and found the needle valve stuck, freeded it up and the gas started flowing once again. Put carb back together and fired up the motor only to have it run at full choke only. Pulled the main needle jet out and it was full of junk, cleaned it up, reinstalled and try again. The ole 127 fired right up and ran fine for a few minutes and only hickuped a couple of times. Decided to take it for a short spin around the farm, by the time I git bak to the house all was good. Than I decided to park it in the barn for winter storage, better than sitting outside in the weather all winter. Winter plan for the 127 is to install a clutch in the driveline so it will start easyer in the cold months. Heres a question on this plan, Will a clutch and drive shaft from a 102 work in a 127? |

Providing I've measured the right drive shafts, your 127 shaft should be 17" from the front end to the back of the "T" that bolts to the rag joint (there is also a "tip" on the back end of the shaft that goes into the flange behind the rag joint). A 102 drive shaft is 18 3/16" from one end to the other. In order to use a clutch in your hydro you have to replace the drive flange on your 127 with a 3 pin driver from a gear drive. The back end of the shafts are also different, the gear drive has a tubular coupler and the hydro has a rag joint (ther rag joint is reduce the stress on the hydro input shaft and spiral pinl, from people slamming from forward to reverse...). I'm thinking that you need to use a hydro drive shaft, with a 3 pin driver and clutch set-up installed on it. Basically all that would need to be done to the shaft is to have spiral pin holes drilled in the appropriate places and then put the clutch set-up on the shaft and bolt the clutch release arm and bracket onto the dash tower. Then hook up your linkage to the foot pedal cross shaft, you will probably need the "clutch and brake pedal arm" from a gear drive to put on your foot pedal cross shaft, so there is somewhere to attach your clutch release rod, but I think that leaves no place for your neutral return lever. You may have to fabricate an arm to go on your clutch pedal cross shaft that will "center" you forward reverse lever AND pull your clutch release rod. So to answer your question, I don't know! I can tell you that the two shafts attach differently on the back and the hydro style should be used on a hydro. |

Installed spring assist
I got my wide frame spring assist today. Put her on and adjusted it with the front blade. So in the battle of the coming snow, I win with lifting the blade.:biggrin2.gif:
I want to add, that compared to a narrow frame, putting this on was a pain in the ... . |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
