Is bear good to eat? I understand they need culling, but I'm asking a different question.

You bet it's good. To me it's right up there with elk meat, that's my favorite red meat.
But, you must get all of the fat off, that don't taste so good.

Yes indeed. All fat MUST be removed when prepping BEAR meat. Bear fat is SOOOOOOOOO over-powering. Well in my opinion. & taste buds.

Trimming the fat is pretty standard with all wild game, no? I'd love to try bear! I've had elk and I think its delicious. You need to air mail me some frozen bear to try! A bear weighs like 600lbs... I only need a couple of those!

In sad news... We will no longer get to buy Russian arms for hunting as of yesterday. Not sure what your firearm of choice is, but man does it suck for a bunch of us. Glad I made my purchases earlier.

It is important to remove fat, but especially bear fat, it's some nasty stuff, coon also has nasty fat, as well as glands that need to be removed.
We do get a couple 600# bear around this area, but the average is around 200#. The one and only bear I killed dressed at 125#.
I use my crossbow for all big game, (deer and bear) haven't used a firearm for hunting in over 25 years except for small game and yotes.
"Firearm of choice" all of them I'm afraid in time there's going to be a lot of things "we will no longer get to buy", so buy them when you can
