Thanks bud, just trying to keep pace with you guys.

Here is today's update: Saturn-1 ~ PTO-0.

Okay, maybe the PTO gets a half point since all 3 set screws are still in place. I was able to get good bites with my hex wrench, and at least two of them started to move, but then I ran into brick walls on all 3! The drilling has begun, and I can tell they used hardened steel for these because the bits are quickly dulling.

Persistence.

I hear ya!

I made a cribbage board so I could use all my dull bits for something.

Don't let it win! You're making great progress.

Still rolling.

1 - Got the chassis off to the car wash for a top and bottom degrease job. Be aware when you flip it over there are 4 welded studs from inside the dash tower area that will come in contact with the ground if you don't slide a 2x4 under.

2 - Underside of fender pan is in remarkable condition. Very slight rust, and I will only remove the paint in the rusted and scratched areas. No need to go back to bare metal in my experience. Top side good condition, with a bit of rust beginning under the foot grips. Storage bin is great, someone stored a leaky can of oil in there.

3 - 882 patiently waits its turn. Back side of the fender pan moderately banged up, but nothing really bad. Systematically working up and down the lip with hammer and dolly. I'm not a fast body man, but I go for straight as possible to reduce the use of filler.

4 - Starting to process the stream of small parts through my system. Degrease> Sand Blast> Alcohol Wash> Primer> Paint. I prime and paint small parts immediately after sand blasting and clean up. Paint sticks very well and I don't have to mess with cleaning them up all over again after being handled and getting dusty while waiting their turn at a paint gun. This is also why I use rattle can on the small stuff. Makes future touch up simple and the paint matches perfectly. For the fenders and chassis, I will have a single stage quart of yellow mixed up to match the Cub yellow rattle can.

5 - Bunch of parts came in, including a shipment from a place called Choo-Choo of all things. I was able to get the plastic bushing at the top of the steering tube that keeps the wheel from wobbling around inside the shaft, along with the metal clip that engages against the brake/safety switch to actuate it. Availability of that one surprised me.

Last night was lost to working on my wife's car, and today it's raining.....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
