Man do I know how that goes. It's only X amount for this and that and then you add it all up.......... BTDT. If you need or want a Vanguard 16HP I have one out of a Cub that I just fixed up and got running. If I'm smart I'll sell the engine rather that start another project. LMAO

I bought this parts 1450 to get the fenders for my 148 project. It had no engine, steering column or wheel, or hood/side panels and a locked up rear end.

I had no intention of fixing the tractor at the time, but with the frame sitting there in the garage, looking forlorn, so sad, I decided to try to bring it back from parts I had around. Looking at it now, it's definitely not an economical endeavor as I can buy a working 1450 for $500. it will cost a lot more than that to fix this.

I'm torn between the challenge of finding parts and making a complete tractor and the rational approach of going out and buying a running tractor. On the other hand, what's the fun in just buying one?

Today I picked up a newly overhauled but never run K301 out of a 1250. bored .010 over, new piston, valves, rings, etc. Complete engine except for regulator, muffler and muffler box. Guy was building it for his 1250 and lost interest. So now it's mine. Looks good, short block is assembled, but the external parts are in a box. PTO is there, too. But no mounting rails.

I have an appointment to pick up a working ported hydrostat on Nov 12, as well as a steering column and wheel. I think I have the front grill castings I can use.

So do I put the new engine in my smoking 1450 mower and give that to my daughter or do I build this one for her and then overhaul the engine in the 1450 mower? Decisions! Decisions!
Sounds like you are getting all the parts rounded up so I say build the 1250 for the daughter and do up the 1450!

went "picking" in my pile, found a muffler, an air cleaner, gas tank, wide front wheels and tires, brake pads, a QL front grill casting and nose piece. No ignition switch, however, the one on the 147 parts tractor was trash.

Need a pair of iso mount rails and a hood. Will put an ad in the wanted section.

Went on ebay and bought an ignition switch, and tunnel cover. Slowly accumulating parts...hoods are $100 or more with shipping! Yikes!

Picked up the hydro today, steering column and gear, steering wheel, and a driveshaft. I think I can start putting this puppy together. Need to do some cleaning of the frame, look at what needs primer/paint. Pics to follow.

Some pics of the replacement hydro unit (pretty dirty, I must say) before and after some cleaning. The trunnion is badly worn, so I took the trunnion from the damaged hydro and did the repair using the replacement part. some of the other parts I've got lined up, including the rebuilt engine. I ordered seals and gaskets for the hydro. I plan to open it to check it out, do any cleaning, replace the trunnion arm and reassemble. And, finally, the chassis as it sits. Note: I put the blue paper towel under the trunnion for picture clarity.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
