Victory
Went thru all the wiring a second & third time with Roland's wiring diagram. Found wires on ignition switch turned around. Started right off and ran fine. My son was extatic...and immediately did a victory lap around the yard! Now to finish getting it assembled and mount up the tiller!

New and Help!
My new to me CC 106 is very confusing. The guy I bought it from always disconnected the battery after use which leads me to believe there is a slow draw on it. Anyway I get it home, try to start and battery is dead. I put my charger on it but it won't start charging until I disconnect the ground terminal from the tractor. Battery fully charged, I reconnect the neg terminal and turn the key, engine fires right up. Satisfied, I turned the key off, engine dies but starter/generator keeps on motoring! And it was turning the engine over of course, but the engine would not fire cuz the key was off. I quickly disconnected the neg terminal of the battery and the starter/generstor stopped. did I mess up the field when I disconnected the battery? I know how to polarize the field if necessary. help!

First you need to follow the wiring diagram checking that each wire attached to the proper place. AND that you have the correct voltage regulator and correct Ign, switch as they are the most likely culprits. So many "will fit" regulators and ignition switches DO NOT fit correctly. And be advised that one MUST make certain that the wires attached to the regulator, are on the CORRECT LABELED lugs of the regulator not just where they happen to be located on the regulator. Now some ppl find electrical diagrams scary. Not so on these old tractors, there is not one bit of "electronic stuff" on these old machines. it is as simple as a light bulb and switch so to speak. No rocket science here. just logical diagrams. a simple cheap volt/ohm meter from harbor fright is all one needs for checking continuity I'm sure others will chime in to links of the diagrams here on OCC if you havent already found them. oh and don't worry about polarizing anything just yet until everything is working correctly as mostly it is not necessary and ppl do more harm then good attempting it. And once you let the "majic smoke" out of things they are never the same. |

Might be a good first step to see if either the Vreg or the ignition switch looks newly replaced, just to give an indication of where to start first.
You'll get this! It's a simple machine with simple wiring.

I found the problem... I cut open the factory loom and along the frame alongside the engine the wires were all green and bare and very fragile, touching each other, no insulation at all...so I ordered a new complete wiring harness for the 106 from Porch electric.
