ive got my k301 together with nos kohler parts and a zk cam grind. motor runs well and sounds really good . is there any break in on a rebuild motor that should be followed. ive ran it about 30 mins or so to adjust the carb and points.

Brian is about 15 years behind. His info is all pretty standard stuff most any motor head can figure out.

His links, info and even name is pretty much banned from this site. Best to just leave his name off here. If you think he's great, keep it to yourself.

Depends on how good you are. I always told my customers to run the pi$$ out of my motors, just don't overheat them. If they are going to fail, they usually will in the first 10-20 hours of operation. If you overheat it..... that's operator error. (I didn't cover operator stupidity.)

I have teenage boys so that's how there run without being toldwould a straight pipe bent to go out the front grill be a bad idea? the box and muffler is bad and I don't like that setup anyway. I didn't wont to cut the sheet metal for a upstack if I could exit out the front.

With a straight pipe, it's all about tuned length. Too shrt can hurt power, or even overheat an exhaust valve. Too long can hurt power.... mufflers rob power. I'd probably cut the side panel and go with about an 14-18" pipe. Play with length if you want. Length does matter. If you arent game for cutting the panel, you may be able to get some length in front of the motor. Keep in mind, bends can also affect how well it scavenges.

a pipe bent in a s shape that goes out the factory grill opening would be about 17 inches. I did a mock up with a stiff wire. thanks for the information.
