Thanks for the reply matt. The pulley has three hole already taped in it. So im coming up with an adapter plate to bolt the three pin driver to. I didnt think the tapered fit would be enough thats why i was going to key it. I still probably will. Overbilt never hurt anything heres a pic of the pulley with the three holes

That's good news, I couldn't see those holes in the other pictures. Just make sure your adapter pilots in that recess for the nut in the pulley.
I wouldn't bother with the keyway unless you determine that the pulley is slipping; you'll have to take the crank out to get it cut, and depending on how you do the keyway, an unusual broach and/or broach bushing may be required to cut the keyway in the pulley. You can paint some index marks on the pulley and crank, and then put a good load on the tractor and see if there was any relative motion between the two parts. If there is, you need the keyway; if there isn't, you don't. The pressure plates in the clutch are two pieces, and the hub is a press fit to the plate itself. Despite the small interface between the two parts of the pressure plate, the press fit is more than enough to handle the engine's torque. That tapered crank end is far larger, so I think you are worrying about nothing. Only do the keyway if you need it. |

Haven't been on here in a while but a quick update on the diesel. The engine is torn down right now getting all new bearings and piston rings before it goes in the cub. So as I get time its going back together.

Thanks I'm still working on it. Its just not had the funds lately. My wife had to stop working while she finishing her masters so the play money has been tight. But I do have most of the engine parts ready to be assembled.
