This is a industry standard, but I have encountered a few red main ground cables on IH and early CCC Cubs. Why they did that is beyond me.

The switch is correct and diode is correct....
The V/R takes a/c input voltage voltage produced by the engines alternator and changes it to d/c output voltage to keep the battery charged.
The a/c goes in on the two yellow wires at approximately 35 volts.
The d/c comes out on the red wire ideally 13-14 volts.

So, disconnect the red lead from the V/R.
Get out you DVOM, set your function switch to measure DC voltage (200 volt range) and connect the DVOM red lead to the red wire coming out of the V/R.
Connect the DVOM black lead to battery neg. terminal or a good clean ground on the engine.

Start your engine. Do you see any voltage on the meter.

Sounds to me like a shorted regulator. Do a resistance check from the output of the regulator to ground.

Thank you everyone for all your help, the final fix was to replace the regulator, I had one off of a spare engine. I finally get the cut some of my lawn LOL. You guys are a lifesaver.
