When we tore that clutch apart I was amazed at how much wear was on that drive shaft. Then I thought about it and realized that was the original drive shaft and it has lasted for about 48 years of some very hard use so it was no shame it was so worn. I got some progress on paint removal of a few pieces and a whole lot more to go.

That sure is quite a worn drive shaft! I would say a replacement is in order ,lol! Now I want to get back to the 72 work, thanks! Your 102 is gonna be quite a nice tractor!

Lol that does look a little like a cam shaft. In the drive shafts defense it still worked and that was after 47-48 years of use and yes even abuse. That says something about the durability engineered into these great old machines. I personally have used and abused this old 102 with mowing, towing, hauling, and snow blowing for most of its life. What amazes me is how this oldie but goodie has performed admirably throughout its life. My son EricR did his best to destroy this tractor and it still runs on. Yes I do believe it not only needs but deserves to be refurbed and kept around for much more use because Eric's son Tyler is next in line to use and love her as we do.

Just thought I would make a post to update this thread. I had been using a wire wheel to clean up parts and came across a thread about electrolysis that intrigued me. I made a tank from an old plastic garbage can and some legs from two trashed barbecue grills and have not looked back since. I am cooking some small parts right now. Maybe tomorrow I'll get some pics of the set up. We were so impressed with the first piece we are planning on makeing a frame of wood big enough to do the frame the same way. I also today received a package in the mail that has the shaft and parts to make a whole new driveline. Pics to follow-----

Last night we undertook to clean up the threads in the exhaust port on the old K241. We were very aware of the possibility of cracking that port so we went real easy. We even thought of getting a tap big enough to do the job but when we saw how expensive a 1 1/4 pipe thread tap was we went back to just using a pipe and PB blaster and go very easy. We gained several turns on the pipe and will continue to do the same unless we can find a tap for less than $50.00.
