Bad News: I found a magneto at the local Cub Cadet shop, installed it, have the new spark plug in with new charged battery and cranks still but will not run!
Any thoughts? Plugged fuel line or something non electrical perhaps? Thanks! eric |

Did you gap the mag at the proper distance?
Did you connect the wires in the proper order? Did you push the sparkplug all the way into the boot? Was the sparkplug grounded to the block Was all the safety devices engaged prior to cranking? Was there a BLUE SPARK at the electrode? If there was a spark, Did you have it secured into the cylinder head? If so, upon cranking was there a compression stroke noticed? If so, does the fuel tank contain gasoline? If so, is fuel getting to the carb? |

Take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

Eric, buddy, I really think you should find someone to fix your motor. I'm not sure we can help you.

Starting to think the same thing myself...however I must have been doing something wrong before. When it was recommended to lie the spark plug on the engine block to see if I got spark I did not realize ( I know, very stupid!) that it needed to be plugged into the boot connecting to the magneto. I was in some way thinking that it was getting current from the block.
SO I did this and I get spark at the plug with the old magneto and the new magneto. Thoughts? Thanks! eric |

So I pulled the carburetor off and cleaned it although it didn't seem very dirty. The fuel line filter had brown gunk dirt in it so I cleaned that out. Would have replaced it had I had a new one.
Still wouldn't start until I sprayed some starter fluid in the carburetor. It cranked then would run for about 2-3 seconds and shut off. Wouldn't run again until I re-sprayed but again same thing, only 2-3 seconds then off. I am finding that when I spray the starter fluid in the carb that it is leaking from where the solenoid sits at the base of the carb. Think the O ring gasket in the carb needs to be replaced? At least I am getting somewhere! Not ready to give up yet especially when the dealer would charge $72/hr labor + parts. I could buy a new machine for what that will end up costing. Almost... Thoughts? thanks! eric |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
