Deal on a 1000

Finally was able to remove the seized manual lift handle. Broke one of my 1/4 inch solid carbide drill bits in the process, but not before most of the roll pin was gone. Finished up with a regular/nitride bit, and, with judicious application of heat from a mapp gas torch, was able to knock the handle off. Frame is in the truck with the dash tower, and a few other odd bits--QA handle, brake caliper supports, lift index. Next stop, sandblast shop.

Nice job with the tear down, those rusted and frozen shafts and stuff can be trying but you got it. I too am getting most things blasted these days. I will say that you should take up your blaster on his offer if he is a good painter, not sure about the sherwin williams paint, What type of paint is it?I'm trying to get away from rattle cans even though they are super convenient, I'm just so tired of the TSC majic paint and how it wrinkles and runs and never dries, ugh. What cans are you using dad? Sorry if you've stated this before. I'm really leaning towards buying the good stuff and have our painter at work do it. So much prep and money to get stuff blasted you might as well do it that way, I'm going to as well.

On my previous tractors (8 of them) I've been using the Case/IH rattle cans, purchased either mail order or from the local dealer--at $10 to $15/per can. A tractor typically needs 4 or 5 yellow and 3 or 4 white, so I'm in over $100 for the rattle cans per tractor. The Sherwin Williams shop recommended an industrial fast dry enamel, at $46 per gallon. Ordered one gallon of each this morning, will pick it up tomorrow and take it to the sandblaster. I forget the name of the paint he suggested. He used paint from my rattle cans to match the colors. I'll report back on how it works, and, perhaps the color codes in case anyone else wants to take this approach. I might pick up an HVLP painter to try for some small parts.

Please post paint codes, I am interested. I have a 1000 and a 1450 I would like to restore.

Picked up the paint and took it over to the painter. Here's what I got. They mixed the yellow by tinting the safety yellow they already had.

Edited A week later: These colors are not an exact match to the IH colors--the yellow is darker and the white is not right either. Side by side with IH Rattle Can colors, the difference is quite noticeable. If you use these colors, you'll need to complete the entire project with them. Rattle can touch ups will not match.

Managed to clean up the rear end, so it's drying now, and next step is to prime and paint it. Started working on the clutch assembly. Faced the clutch pressure plates on the lathe. Both springs are broken (compression spring and teaser spring). All the roll pins came out without any problems.

I have a teaser spring, need to order the larger spring. Once I clean these parts up, and get them primed and painted, I'll set them aside until it's time to install them.

Update--ordered more parts, plus all four tires and new front wheels because the ones on the tractor have loose bearings. Started looking at the total list of parts.

Thought I'd provide an inventory of parts purchased for this build.
There may be a few extra parts (I'll sometimes order a couple if I want to have an extra on hand or for another project). But most of this stuff is for the 1000. Plus, I’m pulling tune up parts, front axle pin and a few other parts from my current hoard, so they are not listed here. So I’d say this is a reasonable approximation of the cost for the overhaul. It's a little daunting when you see it all in one place.

Some progress on the rear end. Pulled the axles, replaced seals, drained what looks like gear oil from the rear end, cleaned everything up and painted. Obligatory pics.

Amazing how fast it adds up. When its all done it's easy to put $3000.00 into one of these restore jobs. Only problem is that you'll get your $$$ if you try to sell it. Ask me how I know. BTDT. Anyway awesome job as always. POTW when your done.

Where did you order the parts from? What about the tires?

I am working on a 1450 basket case and thought I had a boat load of parts coming. Wow! I got many used parts from guys on this and other forums.

Where did you get the tires? My tractor needs them badly. I want to put tri-ribs up front and ag tires in the rear.

Parts from CC specialties, IHCCwarehouse, partstree.com, and miller tire for the tires.

I used to buy a lot of stuff from Charlie at CCspecialties, but he's still trying to get stuff back in stock, so I've been going where I need to.
