Here's my opinion...

I hate to say it, but next time you will know.. People talk...and we aren't the only people that look at craigslist! Honestly the last thing I would have done was post something I REALLY wanted on a world wide website of Cubs that you were going to get a deal on, especially in your parts....unless it was in the back of your truck on the way home. The northeast has some really nice Cub stuff...and a lot of collectors with really nice collections. Like it has been said, he was tipped off by some jerk who thought he was doing everyone a favor. If the ad said $250 the first time, that's a darn good clue that you aren't the only one blowing up his phone. I've had it happen dozens of times on Cub Cadet items. Just have to remember there will be more, take the high road and move on...(even though its hard).

Again, I'm sorry to hear you didn't get it.

There are nation wide craigslist search engines available.
Some not as good as others but still anyone from anywhere can run a search and find the ad and snipe something out from under you.

Maybe we should all email offers over his "$750" offer and see who ends up with the high bid.
Then tell him "I got this check see, for $637 more than our agreed upon price. I will send it to you, you deposit it in your bank and then wire the difference back to me. I will send my shipper to pick up the item".

Exactly! I didn't see the harm in posting it here because it is out there for the world to see anyway

If a couple of us flag his ad it will get taken down and when he puts up a new on we can do it again, trust me I've done this before.

As mentioned already - you don't have a deal until it's on your trailer. Sorry you didn't get it, been there.

It's easy for us all to rip on this guy because it's easy. But we all get screwed way worse every day by our banks, insurance, big business and gov/politicians most of all.

Good luck on the next one(and there's always a next one)

I am sorry that this deal went bad for Martin.

If you have proof that a deal was made, you could file (or threaten to file) a lawsuit for "breach of promise" or perhaps "breach of contract".

This reminds me that, not all that long ago, someone here on OCC offered an item in the "for sale" section, after I had made the deal with the guy, other members here posted in his ad that his item was worth more than his asking price. He then backed out on the deal.

While the seller may have changed his mind on the price he was asking, I think the potential buyer, rather than taking advantage of the seller's lack of knowledge, could have said, "hey, that's worth a lot more than $250. How about if I give you $750." I think as collectors, we should be fair with others, and not try to take advantage of them because they lack the knowledge to properly price stuff.

The posting of the flame CL add, because the seller changed his mind when he discovered its value, was inappropriate in my view.

I say, take the high road.

uhhh..............No
A seller that wants top dollar will do some googling to find out what the market is for what he has.
If he wants to be lazy and post a price way below market, his choice.
I am out to buy the item, not educate the seller.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
