Got the Haban up on the lift to check out today. Not any rust through anyway,
Don't know about what's been added or original to the top.....

The deck from what I see looks to be in pretty good condition. Here are a couple threads on the Habans.

Take a good look at the rear hitch on the deck for cracks.

I was hoping you'd chime in Sam, being the Haban guru, yoda
The rear hangers seem to have had a plate welded in under them, I'll see if I can't get a better picture after I pressure wash the grim off it.
Thanks for your expertise...

Well here's a better picture, I hope.
Seems there's been some modifications throughout it life, but it'll work.
Trying to post bigger pictures as was mentioned in another thread I had. Here goes.

It's the way it came from the factory. Haban was notorious for making changes. Only thing I would do is to add a couple reinforcement plates to the rear hitch. As you can see this one is just a little different than yours. Your deck is a little later design.

Well I'll be darned. Looked like they were added. You are the Haban guru Sam... I'll make up some reinforcements for it. Thanks Sam...

Pull the plate off the spring loaded idler is on and clean under it. I think I had to replace the bushing (or add one) in that arm. Check to see if the spring is broke, Had to change at least one of mine. Look the deck over for broke welds. Also make sure the front gage wheels haven't gotten bent. You really have to watch them when you are running next curbing, concrete aprons, tree roots, sidewalks--they have a tendency to snag pretty hard. If you are trying to mow a perfect lawn, you may find yourself having to add shims under the spindles to get all the blades running together--a slow and aggravating process I might add.

Thanks for the insight. One of my front castor brackets were bent, had to heat it up with the torch to get it back in shape....
My front gauge wheels are roached.... Where do you Haban guys get your replacements from?

For my 2072, I put a pair of used gauge wheels off a belly mower that was under a Deere 670--these were put on the front. The wheels either had bearings or I installed bronze bushings. Pretty certain I had to turn the OD down on my lathe. Also had to rework the rear gage wheels as well. I think I made new pins for them and hardened them--it has been a few years ago since I rebuilt it.

I haven't done anything with the wheels on my 982 yet, it has a very early 60" deck with no front gage wheels. I don't have to use Sams patented anti-rattle device on it!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
