Tine removal is not necessary. Just remove the tine shaft and leave the individual tines on.

Coming right along, you are learning and a good "apprentice"
as are others that are following the progress.
Now those tine shafts sometimes are a bit of a challenge.

And that's when fight started!
Why would you want tall those tines in your way when fighting with the tube removal?
And you will have a fight on your hands getting them off, believe me.
But then, you may just get lucky!
Have Ya got a torch w/a rosebud tip??

Looks like I got lucky! Used a 7 ton 3 jaw puller with an impact wrench and the tines slid right off! Now on to the tiller shaft bearing removal.

Well...I may have gotten lucky with the tines coming off easy, but the lock collar on the tine shaft is not budging! I have it soaking in some penetrating oil and I am hoping that will free it up. If it does not, do you recommend cutting off the lock collar?

Did Ya get the set screw out?
It could be locked either way, left or right.
Either way it should not be hard to unlock
Couple medium, raps with a punch in the unthreaded hole should do it
Try both directions

Haven't we covered this process already? Like beat it to death? It's a lock collar. It's the same as the other two you took off. You have 3 more to remove after this one. Do we need to go through it each time?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
