I finally got electric PTO clutch bearing installed, air gap set, and remounted last week. So I belted up my good Haban 325 deck and had my way with the lawn yesterday. Tractor ran well. Hydro is strong and hydraulics are stout. One fan blade is missing. I detect a vibration. Not sure if just the fan blade would do it.
The steering was atrocious. I spent a couple hours this morning replacing tie rod ends and steering cylinder Heim joints. Then both front rims got new wheel bearings. Did the left steering knuckle side last. The steering knuckle had horrible slop to it. The grease zerk would not take grease yesterday during pre flight. Found the issue. Sloppy cast iron let the top split bronze bushing wander down. I had some new bushings from Motion Industries. All is better now. Hoping to get new axle pivot bolt in after squeezing the channel this coming week along with adjusting the axle slop-stop bolts out front. If I make this too nice and I'll want to keep it.... ![]() ![]()

Nice work Steve. Makes we want the same greasable rod ends for my 1864. Did you source from McMaster? If so, would you have the part numbers?

This post has info on the McMaster Carr part numbers. As Sam Mac said, make sure of your parts before you order anything. Use the Cub Cadet parts look up for your model. The jam nuts and castle nuts for the rod ends will show you what size and thread count you need.

On vacation this week. Some progress was made. High pressure washed the axle. Thinking of throw a spray bomb at the axle.

Drive shaft serviced and a 10 blade fan with all its blades installed. The fan which came on it was lacking a few. Front axle painted and reinstalled. New pivot pin/bolt in place. The front axle snubber bolts adjusted. Replaced a transmition control rod end/ball joint thinger which was held inplace with hose clamps.
![]() New Hydro filter on after after damaging the one on it when doing the drive shaft. (Don't ask. )Will need to adjust the neutral on the control rods and cam plate. Still needs a nut welded on in front of frame for attachments. Got my brother building up some worn attachment points on the deck lift.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
