PTO fun continues. QUESTION: Anybody know the maximum size drill bit I can use on these set screws?

I finally got all 3 sets of screws drilled through. I was lucky on one, you can see what remains of it on the paper that neatly turned itself out with the bit. The other two remain stubborn to the bitter end. The tap set is a loaner from O'Reilly Auto Parts, and the 1/4" is short enough that you can work the threads from both sides.

Elephant in the room, all this is wasted effort if I can't find a shop willing to turn down the Rocky Mountain texture. I do things backwards sometimes, drives my wife over the edge.

try a trans shop, they'll have a machine that resurfaces clutch plates and flywheels

Mini update: 2 of 3 set screw holes are tapped through and ready to go, one was very "iffy" but I think it will work fine. One to go, slow process.

Bummer.

The PTO pulley is not salvageable. After working really hard and getting 2 of the 3 set screws out and re-tapped, the 3rd one cratered on me. It's a long story, but I just did not have the right tools and enough skill to pull this one off. So, does anyone have a spare pulley I can buy? I need the type that uses the two front springs instead of the one that has the bends on the ends. I've already sunk $60 bucks into the clutch kit and want to use it. The friction plate will be fine, I need just the pulley so I don't have to lay down another $100 plus on a full PTO from ebay and the like.

Anyone?

Update:

Intact PTO pulley coming from one of our forum members.

Dash tower has been sandblasted and primed....that was a bear of a job. My blast cabinet is not large enough so I had to to an outdoor setup. Tons of nooks and crannies to have to shoot. I can't imagine trying to prep this piece by wire wheel or hand sanding.

Big hurdle is done.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
