Your right.. I only mentioned that because he said the battery was 2 years old and I thought he mentioned having to trickle charge it. I have gotten batteries that lasted 1.5 years and i have had some go almost 4 years. I accidentally let an almost brand new one freeze once Junk after 3 months. I knew there was a little drain on the battery and forgot about it.

Well, 12.5 is normal not running battery volts. So you go up or down from there. Not charging during crank is what they are considering.

He did not give a value for key off power from battery I don't think but will assume its about 12.5

Well in the mechanic world, 14.2 is alternator voltage. 12.5 (or whatever it was) is nominal battery voltage. Alternator and starter can't run at the same time, so you use nominal battery voltage as the base. 1.5V drop while cranking.... acceptable.
