I see why he couldn't turn it around on the the right side, I guess it could be a club foot on the left side. I'm studying on a pump with remote resivoir so can mount the pump close in on the left side rather than wide on the right side.

The pump can't be turned around because the rotation would be wrong and the pump won't work. The air cleaner is in the way on the left side. I've heard that some import car pumps rotate the opposite direction.

Makes perfect sense to me however I like the bigfoot excuse better...

This thread is old. So I'm way late to the game but EarlJ.. look into Volvo 240 series car PS pump. remote reservoir and I THINK reverse rotation as GM.

Awsome Creation Adam.. how is it holding up two years later?

It works great. I ended up remaking the pulleys because the belts wore into the soft aluminum. I made them out of steel this time so they should hold up better. I've recently been using it with my power angle blade to plow snow and it works flawlessly.

Good to hear it's holding up fine. I guess you worked through the Pulley sizes to give you something like a 2500 RPM rotation at the pump? . Hindsite; I wonder if instead of the Jackplate if you made something with two pulleys, next to each other, on the same side of a plate, shafts going through the plate with Gears on the other side. That would have reversed the rotation and the Pump could have been mounted the other way around. Who knows if you would even have teh room. It doesn't matter, who's to say what is reversed or not on a Custom

Solid lines to the front..AGAIN, really a class job.

I'm not sure what rpm the pump is spinning at full engine rpm. I originally had all of the pulleys the same size but the belts would slip when the lift cylinder topped out and the pump hit the pressure relief valve. I changed the pulley diameters to help increase the torque transmitted to the pump. I also shimmed the relief valve in the pump to lower the pressure to keep from slipping the belts. The pump would slip the belts at 1200psi before and now the pump is set at 700psi. No more slipped belts unless they get stretched but they can be tightened fairly easily.

Ahhhh, zombie thread!
This is a very nice set up. I have seen a few gear drive hydraulic set ups, and this one is top notch. Very impressive.
