Got the starter, head, governor linkage and some of the shroud installed last night. Tested the starter and it works. Hydro is still in pieces on the other bench...

Got a package yesterday from partstree.com. Back to the hydro! cleaned things up a bit, replaced seals, gasket and o ring on the charge pump housing. Put on a pair of auto release valves that came off another tractor. It's all back together, clean as a whistle. Well, almost. No issues on reassembly.

On a sadder note, found out that my shop companion of 11 years, Major, has a very large inoperable abdominal tumor plus kidney failure, and we will have to put him down tomorrow. He's had his nose in all of my projects, not to mention my ears, face, hands, etc., as I work on stuff in the shop. He'll be missed. His pal, Schultz (our other (10 year old) GSD) will be quite lonely, I think. We need to decide what to do. We've had 2 or 3 GSDs for nearly 40 years, but as we near retirement, we are undecided as to whether we want to continue with another GSD or perhaps try going dogless for a while. Not sure how that will work. Wife has had GSDs continuously since she was a small child--me only since we got married 37 years ago. Pics of Major last night and in his prime.

sawdustdad my heart aches for you. I know exactly how you feel. I have lost 3 boxers in the last year with different ailments. Tears you up everytime you have to bury one. RIP Major

I'm so sorry to hear about Major, I lost my Flower (I know daughter named her) Last year at this time. It gets a little lonely with no one to talk to. TO Major. "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."

So sorry to hear about what your going through, but as dog lovers there are going to be decisions we are faced with throughout their lives. And unfortunately this is one of them.
Been there, done that. This has always helped me.

Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts. We are leaving for the vet in a little while with Major. He hasn't eaten in at least 4 days and is very weak. It's time.

With any luck, the tractors, boats, and work will be distraction enough. I'm really worried about his companion, Schultz. Here they are together about 5 years ago...They've been inseparable since they were puppies. Major has been the "alpha male" with "Sergeant Shultz" his loyal partner in crime.

Didn't mean to divert this thread so much. It's just that Major has been such a constant companion with me in the shop...I guess Shultz, normally snoozing away while Major is "helping" me, will start to get all the attention.

Don't worry about diverting the thread in this situation no body will have an issue with it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
