Guys,
Its been to cold for the maple sap to run, so I had to work on something.
The 86 needed attention:
The seat from the 1715 will do for a while.
Started to pull the engine to repair/ service clutch.
Continued in several posts:
Regards,
Chris

Some shots as the engine attachment came off and the engine is out. Some clean up required.

More items removed to get clutch out for inspection.Clutch roll pins were shot on the end by the trans.
Really liked having the tunnel cover on this model compared to a NF.

Clutch sees the light of day. Coupler was pretty loose so the drive shaft was Mig welded and ground to take out the slop.
Stub shaft from Trans had been worn from broken roll pin. Since this is hardened shaft it was not able to be fixed without replacement. A new spiral pin in a new hole through the collar will help keep this tractor moving for a long time.

Clutch plate was cleaned up, teaser spring replaced but was not that bad. New spiral pins where needed. Three new holes in clutch plate. Clutch plates (steel) were cleaned up. Clutch was reassembled by holding the drive shaft in the vise then tapping the drive shaft back to compress the spring, crude method but worked. Keep your thumb out of the way , dont ask me how I know.

Starting to come together! Engine back in. Clutch and brakes adjusted.
Some shots out side in the snow.
Seems to run good. Clutch tuning was worth it.
Also replaced the bearing for the PTO and reinstalled that. So its ready to mow some grass or plow snow.
Regards,
Chris

She's lookin' nice, Chris. Makes me anxious to work on my 86. Unfortunately shearing and show season is coming up so any extra time has to be devoted to that. Have 40 llamas and 2 alpacas to shear along with other spring chores and several shows to get ready for, so it might be summer before I can get into it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
